Football podcast with Kit – Sunday 8th January 2017

Welcome to this FA Cup weekend podcast where me and Kit previewed Chelsea vs Peterborough and Liverpool vs Plymouth, we talk about Rooney as he equalled Sir Bobby Charlton’s record of the most goals ever for Manchester United, and lastly we looked back at Bournemouth’s loss at Millwall as they made eleven changes for that game.

I am sorry about the poor sound quality. Sometimes when Kit was speaking the microphone was not on his mouth.

  1. Dear Saul and Kit

I enjoyed your measured assessment of the benefits of trying new players in the FA cup and the and the advantages and disadvantages of resting payers. I was heartened to hear your view on Bournemouth’s changes for their game against Millwall also.

As an older fan I have high emotions and reverence for this domestic cup competition. Passions which which don’t seem to exist in quite the same way for a domestic cup competition anywhere else in the world.

I want my team, Aston Villa, a founder member of the football league in 1888 and quintessentially British institution to go all out for cup glory in every FA cup game it plays.

In a world where the exponential growth of football means that the Chinese are beginning to offer more money to top players than they can earn in the premier league, I hope we do not forget the value of a history and tradition which cannot be bought or recreated. It may well become one of the reasons the very best players will stay here for less.

Am I a sentimental fool or do I detect that the magic of the cup is alive in the next generation?

    Simon

  2. Thank you so much for your comment. I totally agree with you and I think something has to be done about losing the magic and the tradition in the cup. I wasn’t around in the time the cup was a greater competition, but I have heard that it was a much more special cup.
