There are many overrated and underrated players in the Premier League clubs. So I thought making a list for my first football article would be a good idea. So getting my list started for the overrated players is youngster John Stones.
Overrated
John Stones
To be fair to him, he’s only 22 and he’s at the start of his career. On the other hand, I can’t see any potential in him as he was out of the Everton team last season and is making mistakes with Manchester City; overrated youngster I would say.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic
He’s coming to the end of his career, on the other hand he scored 38 goals last season for PSG. However, he is not showing that quality in the Premier League and doesn’t fit in the United team. I can understand how he would want to carry on his career but I would advise to retire now.
Daniel Sturridge
He did have an amazing season in 2013/2014, although he has struggled in the past two seasons, which have been ruined by injury and form, going into this season he was hoping that he should stay injury free and get into the team. None of the above have happened; he has not been able to play a part in Liverpool’s fluid attack of Mane, Coutinho and Firmino. Moving on, he has not kept injury free, as he picked up a calf problem against Newcastle. He needs to get more playing time so in my opinion he should move to another club in the Premier League.
Underrated
Victor Moses
He has been a secret weapon for Chelsea this season in Conte’s new formation and has shown quality in being re-invented as a wing back. He has been unfairly treated under Mourinho by being put out on loan to West Ham and Stoke. However, I am sure he will have a successful Chelsea future.
Marcos Alonso
Alonso, a summer signing from Fiorentina, has, similarly to Moses, excelled in Chelsea’s new formation. He benefited from Chelsea’s formation change as he didn’t look to be part of the team this season before they changed system. He looks to be part of the Chelsea team for a long time to come.
Andre Gray
Non-League to Premier League is the story of Andre Gray. Brentford brought him from Luton after he was top scorer for them in the League. A reward for his good form for Brentford got him a dream move to Burnley, but maybe the dream was the Premier League, which you could see he wanted as he was top scorer in the Championship and brought Burnley into the Premier League.
In Burnley’s second game, he scored in their fabulous win against Liverpool. However, he got an unfair ban from tweets that he had sent four years ago and since then he has been benched for most of the games. Despite that, I can see quality in Gray and think he will shine.
